Café Santa Cruz is a space of recognized historical and architectural value in the heart of the city of Coimbra. A meeting point, a place for gatherings and debates, a stage for arts and entertainment, the history of Café Santa Cruz accompanies the history of the city. The recognized architectural and historical value, combined with the commitment to preserving the city’s traditions, make Café Santa Cruz a historic icon of Coimbra.

The philosophy of Café Santa Cruz is to preserve habits in its space that are only visible in charismatic cafes: flipping through a newspaper, reading a book, conversing, are rituals to be preserved in this space where gatherings happen informally. With proposals ranging from screening documentaries, presenting storytellers, launching books and magazines, to live music, this is a space intended for the dissemination of culture

CRÚZIO

A sweet with monastic roots

The Crúzio sweet is an exclusive delicacy of Café Santa Cruz that aims to honor the Café, the Church, and the Monastery of Santa Cruz. It is made based on an ancient recipe used when Café Santa Cruz was both a café and a restaurant in the 1950s. The sweet is made using traditional ingredients, such as sweet egg and toasted almond, and there is a clear emphasis on the quality and selection of raw materials, which translates into the flavor, texture, consistency, and sweetness of the Crúzio. The sweet delights those who taste it!

A Manueline Café in the heart of Coimbra

The reference to Café Santa Cruz dates back to 1921 in newspapers of the time – ‘O Despertar,’ ‘A Gazeta de Coimbra,’ and ‘Correio de Coimbra’ – as ‘O Café Manuelino,’ an association with the architectural style of the building.
